UCLA Health Staff Research Associate I in Los Angeles, California

Description

The Department of Medicine is looking for a Staff Research Associate I to join the laboratory. As a key member of the research group, you will be responsible for managing the mouse colonies and conducting a range of experimental protocols, including mice inhalation exposure to electronic cigarettes and air pollutants. You will have the opportunity to administer mice diets and treatments via intratracheal and intraperitoneal routes, and perform bleeding, tissue and organ isolation, and bronchoalveolar lavage. In addition to these tasks, you will also conduct cardiac telemetry studies with continuous recording of electrocardiographic activity and perform a variety of molecular biological procedures, including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, genotyping, western blots, ELISA, quantitative PCR, and flow cytometry. As part of the collaborative team, you will work closely with students and other personnel in the lab, including post-doctoral and graduate student researchers. Your role will also involve data entry on the computer, organizing experimental protocols, maintaining our mouse inventories, and ordering lab supplies. Target hourly rate: $24.88-$29.67Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety, protocols and animal handling.

  • Skilled in working with basic laboratory equipment.

  • Ability to perform several tasks at once.

  • Previous experience working in a laboratory setting is desired. Conducting research experiments is required.

  • Knowledge on mouse colony maintenance required. Ability to perform animal dissections desired.

  • Knowledge on conducting cardiac telemetry studies and interpreting ECG Data

  • Knowledge of cell and molecular biology techniques as well as basic genetics is highly

  • desirable.

  • Must be responsible and able to work independently. Knowledge of PC computers, Word, Excel, PowerPoint processing programs and basic statistical analysis.

Strongly Preferred:

  • BS in Biology, Toxicology or related fields or equivalent combination of work and experience
