This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Local Business Lead (LBL) for our Earth & Environment Business in the Plains District . This position would be based in Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or Nebraska . The candidate will play a key strategic leadership role in the Plains District, working closely with the Plains District Business Line Leader and two other Plains District LBLs (Minnesota / Dakotas and Missouri / Iowa) as we continue to strengthen and expand our existing Earth & Environment practice within the Plains District and beyond. WSP is playing a critical role in the growth and development throughout the Plains District. In Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Nebraska our strategy is focused on state Departments of Transportation (DOTs), the oil and gas industry, renewable energy industry, municipal work, and many others. Services provided include soil and groundwater investigation and remediation, natural and cultural resources permitting and regulatory compliance, due diligence and environmental compliance, dam and levee inspection and design, planning and NEPA, and electric transmission and renewable energy routing and siting. The LBL role also is a leader in leveraging cross collaboration with other WSP business lines such as Property and Buildings (P&B), Energy, Water, Federal, Advisory Services, and PMCM to bring value to our clients. WSP has over 700 professionals in Colorado between all these disciplines.

  • Drives performance of the Earth and Environment, Plains District business within the noted geographic area and strategically grows our market share to fulfill our goal that WSP become the preferred, trusted advisor to our clients.

  • Manages local client coordination and cross-selling efforts in coordination with Team Leads, other LBLs, District, Region, National Business Lines, and Pursuit Management.

  • Integrates as the “face of the company” locally and across the geographic region with clients, industry, and within WSP.

  • Brings an expanded view and integrated response to complex challenges by leveraging our full suite of offerings across all end markets.

  • Utilizes our extended reach of technical and subject matter experts (SMEs) across regions, districts, offices and the globe to foster new and innovative client delivery.

People & Culture

  • Works with designated Team Leads within the geographic area, other LBLs, and the District Business Line Leader to attract the best industry talent by fostering a work environment that is collaborative, values inclusion and diversity and invites broad, creative thinking – crafting a more attractive place to work, grow and thrive.

  • Collaborates closely with Team Leads within geographic area to promote WSP culture, employee satisfaction, and performance.

Operational Excellence

  • Optimizes the client and employee experience through regular reviews while embracing process improvement.

  • Focuses on innovation and collaboration with a focus on maintaining and improving quality.

  • Develops local growth, forecast and business development strategy in collaboration with Team Leads, LBLs, District, Region and National Business Line Leaders.

  • Resolves conflict and other internal/external issues that may arise in the office, amongst WSP’s client base, or on projects.

  • Collaborates with regional, district leaders and other area leaders to strategically drive the business, assess and suggest improvements for project performance, oversee overhead expenditures, and focus on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Sales, Funding, EBITDA, Staff Hiring and Retention, DSO, Utilization, Backlog, Inclusion & Diversity and Guiding Principles.

Expertise

  • Leverages our broad technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings.

  • Fosters the development of new and emerging innovations to remain the trusted thought leaders in our industry.

  • Advances the strategic direction of the district and region in the location of responsibility for sustained and continued growth consistent within the context of the strategic plan.

  • Encourages, supports and promotes the technical and professional development of local WSP staff

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience with a college degree or equivalent experience in the environmental consulting industry with a strong focus in the geographic area of interest.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences, Biology, Geography, Planning, Business, Engineering, or related discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience of leadership, personal accountability, persistence, and growth.

  • Strongly established relevant client relationships and industry contacts in the local area.

  • Ability to innovate and re-think the conventional approach to client and employee engagement.

  • Strong business acumen with an aptitude for improving processes.

  • Sound decision-making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities across a multi-disciplined practice.

  • Commitment to internal and external client service.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
