The mission of the Louisiana Veterans Home is to primarily serve the Veterans’ population of Louisiana through the provision of medical, restorative, and rehabilitative service in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary objective of the home is to provide quality nursing care to eligible veterans with the ultimate goal of returning the veterans to the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.

This position is located in the Recreation Department of the SW Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana.

This a WAE/PRN appointment pay starts at $10.00 per hour. WAE positions are not to exceed 1,245 hours in a 12-month period.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No experience or training required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid funds require that applicants possess a valid Certified Nursing Assistant certificate as required by Federal Mandate implemented in 1987.

To perform routine non-nursing duties in the care and comfort of patients and for the maintenance of a clean patient environment.

Close from a Registered Nurse, Practical Nurse--Licensed, Nursing Assistant or other higher level personnel.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Nursing Assistant 1 by the absence of responsibility for performing sub professional nursing duties involving more complex, varied and direct patient care.

Examples of Work

Transports or escorts patients to and from units and departments for various activities; may assist patients with ambulation.

Performs general tasks such as transporting specimens to lab.

Receives and distributes clean linen; makes and changes bed linen.

Cleans immediate patient care areas.

Cleans unit refrigerators; mops or sweeps floors as necessary.

May perform minor maintenance tasks such as; changing light bulbs.

Distributes dietary trays; feeds patients; provides patients with drinking water, ice and other drinks.

Assists unit clerks in storing supplies, and maintains clean supply area.

Cares for the personal needs of patients and assists them in grooming and personal hygiene.

Assists patients with activities of daily living.

Provides age-appropriate care (neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatrics).

Interprets age-specific data appropriately.

May be required to provide care to patients with infectious diseases.

Provides post-mortem care.

Successfully completes training programs such as; CPR, First Aid; infection control, infectious disease, and/or programs that maintain hospital standards such as; quality control, safety issues; JCAHO requirements.

Maintains any necessary certifications.

Work may involve shift work.
