Job Posting Summary

Mercy University is actively seeking a dynamic individual to assume the pivotal role of Program Director for our esteemed Mental Health Counseling program. As the Program Director and Assistant/Associate Professor, the successful candidate will be entrusted with overseeing our Mental Health Counseling programs and fostering a culture of collaboration within our distinguished faculty team.

This full-time faculty position presents an exceptional opportunity for an experienced counselor educator to make a profound and lasting impact. We highly value candidates possessing both school counseling certification and a licensed mental health counselor background. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the capacity to deliver courses tailored to the diverse needs of students in both the school and mental health counseling programs.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Teaching: Deliver counseling courses for the Mental Health and School Program.

  • Academic Leadership: Set the standard for academic excellence within the department to ensure students receive a top-tier education.

  • Mentorship and Faculty Development: Cultivate a culture of growth and development among faculty, nurturing their potential.

  • Curriculum Oversight: Continuously enhance and evaluate the curriculum to meet evolving student and counseling field needs.

  • Admissions: Play a pivotal role in selecting future mental health counseling professionals who positively contribute to society.

  • Program Assessment and Accreditation: Uphold the highest standards of program assessment and accreditation.

  • Innovation: Develop new initiatives fostering growth and collaboration within the University and beyond.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Teaching Experience: Demonstrate a record of excellent teaching in counseling.

  • Licensure: Hold or be eligible for licensure and/or certification.

  • Experience: Ideally, possess a minimum of three years' experience in mental health counseling.

  • Multicultural Commitment: Share our dedication to working in a multicultural setting, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • CACREP Knowledge: Familiarity with CACREP standards.

  • Licensure: Current New York State LMHC licensure.

  • Technological Proficiency: Experience with Blackboard or an equivalent Learning Management System.

  • Scholarly Productivity: Evidence of scholarly achievements through publications, presentations, and/or grants in counseling.

Education Requirements:

  • Doctoral Degree: Hold a doctoral degree in Counselor Education or a related Counseling field.

    Physical/Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies

    Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

    Mercy University promotes a community campus environment. As a result, employment is limited to the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
