Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE The Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students serves as a member of the Student Affairs executive team. Central to this position is working with students, faculty, staff, university administration, deans of the colleges, and professional schools to develop programs and services that extend and enhance the student experience at Case Western Reserve University. The Associate Vice President serves as a resource to parents who have concerns about their students at Case Western Reserve University and is responsible for services that contribute to the health/emotional welfare of students, recruitment, retention, advising, mentoring and development of all students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional. The nature of the role requires participation in a wide range of activities while regularly collaborating with students, faculty, and university administration, graduate and/or professional schools, and staff. The Dean of Students is responsible to assure that judicial processes are in compliance with standards of Due Process, FERPA and The Cleary Act as outlined in the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 and for providing the Vice President for Student Affairs regular updates on student conduct issues. Consult with legal counsel regularly. The Associate Vice President and Dean of Students plays a visible role in advancing the Divisions of Student Affairs priorities around identity, inclusion and diversity while actively supporting students, organizations and departments fostering support and development for inclusion and intersectional programs. Working with a high degree of autonomy, this individual has oversight of the Dean of Students Office, directors of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Center, Student Conduct and Community Standard and the International Student Resource and Engagement Office. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSProvide overall direction in keeping with the university mission, student affairs mission and strategic plan. Provide overall direction, vision, and leadership by providing direct supervision to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and directors of Multicultural Affairs, the Flora Mather Center for Women, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Center, Student Conduct and Community Standards and the International Student Resource and Engagement office . Serve as an integral member of the vice president for student affairs executive leadership team, as well as the vice president for student affairs leadership council assisting the vice president in setting goals and direction for the division of student affairs. Advise the vice president for student affairs regarding development, implementation, and assessment activities, trainings and support services that significantly enhance a commitment to anti-racism and the experiences of minoritized students and community members.
