University of Virginia Assistant Professor - Sociology in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Department of Sociology at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position specializing in environmental sociology. We seek a theoretically engaged scholar who uses quantitative methods to study topics related to the environment and is capable of teaching courses in environmental sociology and graduate statistics. Research on issues related to climate change and/or migration is preferred but not required. We particularly value candidates who would contribute to diversifying our faculty. Candidates will be expected to participate in the university’s Climate Collaborative—a $10 million initiative led by the UVA Environmental Institute that provides opportunities and resources for interdisciplinary research aimed at helping communities address climate-related challenges.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop an independent research agenda that contributes to the field, indicate promise of sustained research excellence, and provide evidence of strong teaching and/or mentoring skills. Candidates should hold a PhD or appropriate terminal degree by time of appointment.
