Posting Summary

Provide coordination and instructional and technical support of laboratories associated with advanced cell/molecular courses within the Department of Biology. Assist with the operations and courses of the UVM Natural History Museum collections within the Department of Biology. Design and test new laboratory exercises. Order and help faculty members prepare course materials including solutions and reagents. Receive, maintain, and dispose of (as necessary) various central pieces of lab and office equipment. Assist the Natural History Museum Director with curation and display of collections. Assure labs and building infrastructure are safe, functional, and maintained, by working with Biology department personnel, UVM safety officers, UVM physical plant, and/or external companies/field engineers. Supervised by the Department Chair.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, or a related field and four to give years’ related experience required conducting cellular/molecular research and/or managing a cellular/molecular biology-centered research or course-based laboratory. The three years of experience may include laboratory research and laboratory teaching as part of a graduate degree program. Working understanding of various life science/biochemistry laboratory instruments/equipment. Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Qualifications

Training/education in lab management, safety and teaching.

Anticipated Pay Range $27 to $32/hour
