Descriptive Title:Program Coordinator

Full-time, Monday - Friday, 10:00am - 6"00pm, 37.5 hrs/wk Some Sat. (Sat schedule: March - May)

Description of Duties:

  • Support the Science and Technology Entry Program(STEP) in the Office of Diversity Education and Research at SUNY Downstate. - Coordinate STEP activities i.e. recruitment, retention and evaluation of STEM programs for young adults (grades 7-12 and some college). - Partner with local and national programs to create experiential learning, didactic sessions, and seminars for students. - Monitor student attendance/academic progress, complete data tracking and reporting requirements. - Partner with Downstate students and faculty in creating programs that expose STEP participants to various health science careers. - Contribute to scholarly work(manuscripts, grants, reports) that supports diversity, inclusion, and equity in STEM fields. - Mentor, support, and provide educational career counseling to young adults in 7-12 grades and as they transition to college. - Conduct focus groups that will guide program evaluation and assessment and inform new STEP initiatives. -Maintain a social media/website to advertise and provide update on the STEP program and related Office events. - Coordinate a community-based parents and teachers advisory board that will inform the development of new STEM programs.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED: Bachelor's or higher degree in STEM related fields i.e. education, health sciences, public health, epidemiology. Must have excellent writing, communications, and teaching skills; able to conduct a literature search for evidence-based practices and apply them to enhancing STEM programs; excellent organizational outreach and community engagement skills. Must reside in NYC on start date. PREFERRED: Candidates interested in developing a career in STEM education, diversity, equity, and inclusion, or health equity related fields are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be committed to addressing STEM education as a social determinant, increasing diversity in STEM fields, empowering students(grades 7-12), and creating an inclusive environment for diverse learners with diverse needs.
