Position Summary

Morehouse School of Medicine Department of Community Health and Preventive Medicine seeks a full-time Research Assistant I to support activities associated with Preventative Maternal Mortality. This combined role plays a pivotal part in gathering data for assigned research projects by identifying, contacting, corresponding with, and interviewing research study participants. The Research Assistant will conduct interviews in various settings, including clinical settings, subjects’ residences, or over the phone. Responsibilities encompass collecting, coding, and entering study information into the database, as well as actively participating in data compilation. Attention to detail is paramount, and tasks involve editing completed interview questionnaires for completeness, legibility, and accuracy.

Additionally, the role includes supporting community-based participatory research and maternal health activities. As a Research Assistant at the Morehouse School of Medicine Center for Maternal Health Equity, duties extend to literature reviews, assisting with community advisory board activities, instrument development (observational protocols, interview guides, quantitative surveys), and both qualitative and quantitative data collection. Collaboration with the project team and engagement in dissemination activities, such as manuscripts and conference abstracts, are integral components of this multifaceted position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Health Promotion or related field from a regionally accredited college or university; Master’s preferred

  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience.

  • Evidence of excellent data interpretation, and oral and written skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience conducting quantitative data and/or qualitative data analysis utilizing software packages such as SPSS , SAS , NVivo, etc.

Job Duties

Description of Job Duty

This is a full-time opportunity for a research assistant. This position will be responsible for updating and maintaining study databases; entering, editing, querying, auditing, coding, and reconciling collected data. Reviewing secondary data analysis of existing data sources will require data merging, coding and directed analysis to test research specific aims and hypotheses. The research assistant will also support coordination and facilitation of needs assessment and community engagement activities.

The ideal candidate will also show evidence of exposure/experience in the following areas:

  • Experience in literature reviews, dissemination activities, and effective communication skills.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and confidentiality skills.

  • Problem-solving abilities, analytical skills, and proficiency in web-based applications.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Prior behavioral/community-based research experience.

  • Experience with individuals who use drugs or pregnant/postpartum individuals.

  • Community work and collaboration with multiple organizations.

  • Excellent communication skills, accountability, and flexibility.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel throughout South Georgia.

  • One year of counseling, research, or relevant experience

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
